CHECKUPS & CLEANINGS - Click to Learn More
CHECKUPS & CLEANINGS
In dentistry, everything starts with a routine checkup and cleaning. With just two of these preventive appointments each year, we can protect your oral health and give you a confident smile at the same time! With dental cleaning, either the Dr. or a skilled hygienist will use sophisticated tools to break up plaque and tartar deposits located around your teeth and gums, making sure to target those areas your brush and floss can’t reach.
After this, your dentist will perform a “checkup” where they’ll look at your mouth and search for the signs of potential dental problems such as tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more. By coming in for these appointments regularly, you’ll give your dentist the opportunity to catch any issues you might have early so they can be treated quickly. These appointments take less than an hour and do a tremendous amount of good for your oral health, so be sure to schedule your next one today!
DENTAL SEALANTS - Click to Learn More
DENTAL SEALANTS
The rough chewing surfaces on the back teeth are one of the most common places for cavities to develop, especially for small children. To combat this, we can apply a thin, clear layer of a (BPA-free) plastic-based substance called a dental sealant. It will create an invisible barrier on the teeth and prevent food particles and plaque from accumulating on them, effectively protecting them from both tooth decay and cavities.
MOUTHGUARDS & SPORTS GUARDS - Click to Learn More
MOUTHGUARDS & SPORTS GUARDS
Did you know that 40% of all sports injuries are actually dental injuries? That percentage is even higher for children! If you or your child regularly participate in sports (contact or otherwise), it’s absolutely essential that you make sure the teeth are protected before anyone hits the field, mat, or court.
Generic, store-bought mouthguard that’s designed to fit a wide range of people isn’t a good choice, we create your own customized one right here in our office. Not only are they more comfortable, but they do a significantly better job of protecting your smile as they tend to be 2-3 times thicker than the average store-bought mouthguard.
They only take one appointment to create, and trust us, they are much cheaper than the cost of fixing a few teeth!
ORAL CANCER SCREENINGS - Click to Learn More
ORAL CANCER SCREENINGS
Oral cancer rates are currently on the rise here in the U.S., especially among healthy individuals who do not engage in traditionally risky behaviors, such as tobacco or excessive alcohol use. This is why the American Cancer Society recommends that everyone should have at least one oral cancer screening every year. Your dentist can actually perform one as part of your regular checkup, using a highly specialized test that detects pre-cancerous lesions.
FLOURIDE TREATMENTS - Click to Learn More
FLOURIDE TREATMENTS
Fluoride is a natural mineral that has been shown to increase the teeth’s resistance to developing tooth decay and cavities. Typically, people get enough of it in their diet, but for those whose smile needs a little bit of an extra boost, we can perform a fluoride treatment as part of your regular checkup. You’ll simply wear a set of mouth trays filled with a highly-concentrated fluoride gel for a few minutes, and that’s it! It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways we can keep your teeth healthy between appointments.
PERIODONTAL GUM DISEASE - Click to Learn More
PERIODONTAL GUM DISEASE
Periodontal disease, better known as gum disease, is actually the most common dental problem in the entire world. It is an infection of the gums and bone that support the teeth, and it usually occurs as the result of a lack of oral hygiene. Early symptoms include red, swollen, or tender gums that tend to bleed often, and left untreated, it can frequently lead to tooth loss.
At Art Dental Center, we take the health of our patients’ gums very seriously, which is why we screen them at every single appointment. Should you show any signs of this disease, we can quickly treat it using something known as a “deep cleaning,” which consists of two procedures called scaling and root planing.
Scaling will be used to break up and clear away any plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) located near and underneath your gum line, and root planing will be used to smooth out the rough surfaces of your teeth’s roots. This will make it much harder for plaque to gather on them in the future, effectively protecting you from redeveloping gum disease.
