Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a form of sedation dentistry. It is a great way to reduce or eliminate anxiety for the fearful patient. It is safe, effective, and convenient!
How does nitrous oxide work?
Unlike oral or IV sedation, nitrous oxide allows our dentists to completely control the amount of sedation administered at any time during your procedure. Nitrous oxide will take effect 3-5 minutes after the first administration andwill wear off 3-5 minutes after it is removed.
What will happen when I am sedated?
When the nitrous oxide is first administrated, you may feel a“tingling” sensation, especially in your arms and legs. This feeling is quickly followed by a feeling of warmthand a sense of well-being.Nitrous oxide will completely leave your system minutes after your procedure has finished, which means that you will be able to drive yourself home after the appointment and continue as normal.
